General Humayun Khan Bangash, a distinguished leader and diplomat, retired as the Corps Commander of the Lahore Corps before being appointed as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey and Macedonia. He is the founding chairman of Askari Bank Ltd and the former CEO of WorldCall Communications. A prominent member of three prestigious think tanks in Pakistan, he also serves as the President of the India-Pakistan Soldiers Initiative for Peace (IPSI).
At the age of 70, General Bangash discovered his passion for calligraphy under the tutelage of Ustad Irfan Ahmed at Hast-o-Neest. Within a short span, his exceptional talent earned recognition through numerous solo exhibitions across Pakistan and internationally, including Tokyo, Geneva, and Kobe, Japan. His contributions to calligraphy established him as one of Pakistan’s most accomplished calligraphers. He is the Patron of Aiwan-e-Ilm-o-Fann, the Calligraphers Association of Pakistan, and serves as the President of the Pakistan Calligraphy Artist Guild.
General Bangash has exhibited his work at esteemed venues, including Sarree-e-Khama at Punjab University, Lahore (2007); Noor Ala Noor at the National Art Gallery, Islamabad (2009); Mojiza-e-Fun at the Punjab Institute of Qur’an and Seerat Studies, Lahore (2010); Lohe-Muhammad at Al-Hamra, Lahore (2012); Lohe-e-Qalam II at the National Art Gallery, Islamabad (2014); a calligraphy exhibition at Ejaz Art Gallery, Lahore (2016); and the Sarree-e-Khama International Exhibition at PUCAD, Lahore (2022).
He has also hosted notable solo exhibitions such as Nuqta at the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo (2016), inaugurated by HRH Princess Takamado; Alif I at Hast-o-Neest, Lahore (2016), inaugurated by Kamil Khan Mumtaz; and Nuqta II at the Hyogo Prefecture Art Museum, Kobe, Japan (2017), inaugurated by Governor Toshizo Do. Other prominent showcases include Alif II at Lahore Garrison (2018), inaugurated by Lt. Gen. Sadiq Ali; Alif III at the UN Headquarters in Geneva (2018), inaugurated by Ismail Kahraman, Speaker of the Turkish Assembly; and Alif IV at Ejaz Art Gallery, Lahore (2019), inaugurated by Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar.
